Swimming in Air
Inspired by director Janice Tanaka’s own life-examining experiences from suffering a concussion to skydiving, this experimental work looks at the process of aging with its mixed genre, part documentary, part narrative, part abstract prose. Its experimental elements take humor, wit and insight to reflect on youth, awareness and the simple appreciation of where one presently is in life. Using specific film and video formats for visual “textures” to create each segment’s distinct visual expression, SWIMMING IN AIR weaves everything together into a buoyant journey through time.
